2019 reading list

Happy New Year to you! I hope your holiday season was full of love and laughter! As I stuff our tree back into its box and carefully wrap each precious ornament, my mind turns to the new year and what I hope to accomplish in it.

For the past six or seven years, I’ve set a reading goal using Goodreads. It definitely kept me focused, and I read quite a few books, to be sure. But I also found that it caused me to binge read and not to retain things well.

For 2019, I’m choosing not to engage with Goodreads that way. Instead, I’ll use it to track the books that I read thoroughly and thoughtfully, making notes that I can reference in the future. Basically, I’m going to be more intentional with my reading. Because I love a good reading list, I want to share it! If you’re so inclined, I would love for you to read a book or two with me! I’ll read more than what is listed here, over the course of the year, but this list will provide a structure for my reading that I’ve lacked in past years.

Bible Studies

If God is for Us by Trillia Newbell
I + II Thessalonians by Kathleen Nielson
God of Creation by Jen Wilkin
God of Covenant by Jen Wilkin

Christian Living

Knowing God by J.I. Packer
Humble Roots by Hannah Anderson
A Loving Life by Paul E. Miller
The Storm-Tossed Family by Russell Moore
a C.S. Lewis selection (to be chosen later)

Fiction

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson
In Farleigh Field by Rhys Bowen
Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan
The Light Between Oceans by M.L Stedman

As I read, my intention is to interact with each book (or series, in the case of my first two fiction selections) by writing a review, here on the blog, and linking them to the “book nook” page.

  1. I would love to read with you, Ashley. The first book I was planning on was “Susie” a biography of Susannah Spurgeon. But… What are you reading first?

    1. Right now I have three books going: In His Image (Jen Wilkin), which I’m reading with a book club; If God is For Us (Trillia Newbell), for which I am on the launch team; and Beneath the Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan, which is just for fun. 🙂

  2. So your list totally stresses me out! LOL You know why that is though, I am not a reader, other than the Scriptures, and you still love me, thank you! With that said I am convicted once again to add that discipline to my life. 🙏🏼
You inspire me. Hey this is the first time for me to respond to a blog😃😳!
